Formed in 2000, The United Nations Global Compact is a United Nations pact to get businesses and firms worldwide to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies, and to report on their implementation. Each year during the UN General Assembly, the Leaders Summit provides global sustainability leaders the tools, network, knowledge, and inspiration needed to scale the impact of private sector contributions to the 2030 Agenda.
The work took inspiration from the iconic display of the world's flags that stand proudly in the entrance of the United Nation’s headquarters in New York City. The flags of the 193 Member States and two Observer States (the Holy See and the State of Palestine) hold a power to create connections across the globe.
The study of flag making (vexillography) was used to develop a suite of twenty-six graphics for the Leaders Summit. Each flag represents a letter of the Roman alphabet. Leadership Summit flags function as abstract graphics or literal letters for display signage and branding. Modular in construction, the flags can be combined and stretched to adapt to any size needed for wayfinding, stage graphics, and motion. Flag modules can be used as abstract letters in a limited set, or extended into a dense pattern.
