In 2023, the Stop Food Waste initiative was extended by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with a focus on spreading awareness about the environmental and cost impacts associated with food waste at the household level. The goal of the Stop Food Waste campaign was to educate households about the contribution they can make to climate action by reducing their food waste using the helpful tips provided on the campaign’s social media channels.
As part of maintaining an engaging presence online to inform as many people as possible about the role they play in climate action, the creative team devised templates and curated unique social media campaigns aimed at presenting ideas around sustainable shopping and food waste to the public in an accessible and visually appealing manner. The campaign messaging is identified in response to behavioural insights and this allows the team to develop evidence-led campaigns and visual assets. A distinct look and feel is developed with the aim of being synonymous with environmental protection and sustainable consumption.
Expanding on our previous work for the Stop Food Waste initiative, we began including illustrations that were richly coloured and textured. These vibrant illustrations replaced the simplistic graphic shapes used previously, and were accompanied by a bold typeface aptly called Pesto Fresco. This shift in the visual language was required to increase recognition among the target audience, especially considering the growing diversity in environmental messaging related to food waste.
