Spilt Milk is a three day festival of music, film and art which takes place in Sligo, Ireland each November. The festival brings national and international artists to perform and exhibit in intimate venues across Sligo Town alongside emerging local artists. This year, the festival presented a special online edition called Transmission and the brief was to create a bespoke identity that would work across the digital social media space, print and visuals for the broadcast.
Based on the woodblock prints of Utagawa Yoshifuji which depict theatre performers surrounded by their costumes and props. The reality of lockdown in 2020 meant that artists no longer had the luxury of separating their work life from their home life. I wanted to reflect this by depicting the performers surrounded by both the tools of their trade and also the more mundane elements of their home life. These elements carry through from the poster design to the animated title cards and into graphics for social media.
