During the early months of the first lockdown, Sara Baume was commissioned by the National Sculpture Factory and Cork Midsummer Festival to create a new textwork for their Midsummer Moments. A fragment of this text was formed in neon tubing and installed on the facade of the NSF to coincide with the Summer Solstice on 21 June.
Six months later, as the Winter Solstice approached, Unthink was tasked with designing a response to the temporary piece. Inspired by the colour and sculptural forms of the neon, we created an elongated printed piece containing a selection of texts by Sara Baume, Sarah Kelleher and Valerie Byrne, with imagery documenting the piece itself.
Mirroring the object, we used short sections of the same glass tubing to house the printed piece, its vibrant fluorescent colour bursting from within. Details of the folded glass were rendered at scale to highlight the artistry of the makers and the inherent beauty of the letterforms.
