Established in 2024 by Ailbhe Beatty, seolstudios is an Irish handweaving practice specialising in bespoke handwoven textiles crafted on a traditional Donegal four-shaft floor loom.
The brief was to create a brand identity that echoed the ethos of seol as a practice concerned with the preservation of indigenous Irish handweaving as a craft, showcasing how contemporary pieces can be made with traditional methods.
A contemporary identity was developed based on the principle of a muted approach, utilising space to enhance the richness of the textures and colours of the pieces. This included the design of a logomark, brand guidelines, templates for label production, and the production of ancillary brand items such as postcards, stickers and business cards.
The logomark is a play on a lettermark, where letters are overlaid and exaggerated to resemble a ball of yarn - representing the starting point of the weaving process and the logo as a first point of contact.
The process also included copywriting and photography to capture the essence of the practice, where a bilingual element was introduced to create a connection with the craft’s home in the Donegal Gaeltacht.
