Rediscovery Centre

It all started with a dirty website.*

The Rediscovery Centre is Ireland’s National Centre for the Circular Economy.

They believe where possible we should limit negative impacts on our environment.

Their website however, was more energy intensive than it needed to be.

We looked at their analytics and crunched the numbers.The site was producing approximately 15 Kilos of CO2 a year - that’s the same weight as two car tyres.

We redesigned it to be energy efficient. We concentrated on these 8 points:

Hosting

Removing unnecessary functionality

Limiting the number of images & video

Opt for SVG graphics where possible (illustrations)

Employing system fonts whenever possible

Incorporating darker colour schemes

Streamlining the coding

User Experience (less faffing about, less C02)

Result:

We’ve slashed their C02 output by a whopping 80%.

It looks good too and has higher user engagement.
