Neu Klang Book Cover

Book cover design for Christoph Dallach's Neu Klang: The Definitive History of Krautrock.

The cover draws on graphic influences of the explored musical genre, creating a floating shape that sits uneasily within the portrait shape of the book. The 3D shape houses an orb and two tubes that seem to be passing through, creating a visual suggestion of the 'Klang' in the title.

The cover uses AG Old Face and Cooper Black in an attempt to ground the type in the era, but both these faces have a common usage today and are not solely retro choices. This allows the cover to feel both contemporary and era appropriate at the same time.
