Our Modular Cube Display system offers an alternative to plastic-heavy, single-use event displays. Designed to be modular and flexible, it’s crafted from wood and cardboard, both renewable materials that have a minimal environmental impact. The printing process itself is powered by self-generated wind and solar energy, further reducing carbon emissions. Another benefit to these materials is that they can act as a carbon store, so creating a circular system that enables the displays to be in use for as long as possible was key to the concept. The modular nature means that small updates can be made without remaking the entire display. Multiple cubes can be arranged in various configurations, adding to the design’s flexibility. This modularity also ensures easy transport and quick assembly.
The choice of materials such as virgin sawn-wood and recycled honeycomb cardboard helped fulfil several aspects of the design challenge at once. The wood serves as the outer frame and can be reused many times with new artwork. The honeycomb cardboard can be printed both sides, allowing for two different displays from a single cube. Both materials decompose naturally, reducing the environmental impact compared to traditional signage materials.
Following zero-waste principles, the aim was to maximise raw material use, while ensuring the product could be repurposed or composted when no longer needed. Waste is minimised by dividing the honeycomb cardboard and wooden corners into equally sized sections, ensuring efficient use of materials. Sections of artwork can be easily replaced, reducing waste and cost.
It was also important not the sacrifice aesthetics, creating something that would be a unique and beautiful sustainable solution. The three dimensional nature of the configuration creates a striking impression in a space with lots of scoop to create engaging artwork designs.
Also of significance, is the fact that this product can be returned to us at The FACTORY any time. Taking responsibility of the full life-cycle of the product ensures each component can live as many lives as possible and be recycled/composed correctly, aligning with the emerging circular economy.
