The Royal Irish Academy of Music produced a double bill production reimagining two thematically linked operas. La Liberazione di Ruggiero dall’Isola di Alcina (1625) and The Sofa (1957)
These operas, both written by women, have diverse origins but are equally thematically rich.
They express ideas about seduction, entrapment, humour and magic. Transformation of the body is central to both stories, as is female empowerment.
The imagery suggests a classical setting but is also intended as a witty interpretation of key themes.
The typography adds complexity by connoting a more modern sensibility. The use of the colour yellow departs from traditionally gendered palettes, echoing the operas questioning of traditional boundaries.
The visual identity takes a considered approach, aiming to match the exciting, sophisticated, forward thinking premise of the production.
