The Galway Shopfront Design Guide was commissioned by Galway County Council, with the aims of identifying the significance of the historic shopfronts of County Galway, and to showcase their distinctive character to the wider community and economic interests.
It focused on the historical context and the various design elements of traditional shopfronts that dot the counties towns and villages, along with offering a reference to preserving and promoting their unique characteristics. The shopfronts of Galway are unique representations of the skills of past generations. They form a special part of the distinctive character of the county. Studying the history of our shopfronts can help us to maintain and reinforce the unique qualities that they give to our towns and villages.
We worked closely with the local Heritage Officer and illustrator Helen O'Higgins to create a series of drawings showcasing intricate shopfront architectual and signage details.
We were also commissioned to photograph the many great shopfronts of Galway county as part of the project.
We worked with a local printer in the West of Ireland to print and produce the book, and was printed on 100% recycled paper. The cover features a Spot UV on the book title which helps give the book cover a subtle shimmer on the title.
