Christmas 2020 was very different from other Christmases as lockdowns and social distancing measures meant that many traditional Christmas activities were cancelled due to the pandemic. My client saw an opportunity to create an exciting, Christmas experience that families could enjoy from the safety of their own cars. Flight Before Christmas is a drive-through Christmas experience that takes place in Weston Airport featuring an illuminated reindeer runway, passport control run by elves, film screenings and festive treats, all cascading into a socially-distanced panto in Santa’s Magical Workshop.
The client approached me to create a brand identity for them that highlighted the unique selling point of the airport location. The goal was to create a warm, nostalgic brand that differentiated them from similar offerings on the market. The logo references the iconic image of Santa and his sleigh flying across the moon on Christmas Eve and the type surrounding it emulates a passport stamp.
A suite of illustrations was created including nostalgic Christmas symbols and flight imagery that could be pulled from for the large array of brand elements required for the project. Social media pieces married the key themes of the brand, featuring scenes such as Santa taking off on the runway and elves preparing gifts at the baggage claim. This created a little illustrated world that kids could get excited for and drove hype for ticket sales online. In the end they sold out quickly after launch and added more dates due to popular demand.
