Every year, Kells TypeTrail turns the streets of Kells, Co. Meath into a canvas of type for a month. The goal is to bring together a wide range of artforms to highlight the unique heritage of lettering as a form of communication, and to display them for the public. Each year, one word is chosen to bring individuals and groups together. As this is what Arts, Culture and Heritage does, 2024's word was ‘Evolve'.
We created this piece in response to the open brief. It's a typographic exploration of Bill Hicks' quote, 'We are the facilitators of our own creative evolution'. Created with lines, patterns, grids and lettering, it uses a reverse perspective concept originally conceived by Patrick Hughes. The idea is that the illusion allows the type design to evolve, depending on your perspective.
