The new website for Culture Date with Dublin 8 needed to be both visually engaging and highly functional.

A particular challenge was integrating the existing brand identity into a digital platform without compromising usability.

The goal of the website is to help locals and visitors alike discover the culture and heritage of Dublin 8, and communicate the festival’s event programme effectively, making it easy for users to explore listings, book tickets, and navigate venues.

The use of a Universal Design approach ensured that accessibility was a foundational element rather than an afterthought. This included implementing high-contrast color combinations, ensuring text legibility, and designing with responsive principles to accommodate different screen sizes and assistive technologies. These decisions were not just about compliance but about making the website genuinely usable for as many people as possible.

Custom illustrations by John Rooney played a vital role in the design, visually representing the unique character of Dublin 8 while keeping the site lightweight and efficient.

Navigation was structured to encourage exploration, with intuitive filtering for event discovery and clear call-to-action elements. The CMS was designed for easy content management, ensuring the festival team could update information seamlessly.

By balancing visual design, usability, and accessibility, the new website has been successfully in increasing audience engagement with Dublin 8’s cultural scene, making it more inclusive and inviting for a diverse audience.
