Caladh is a restaurant by Brian Walsh and Paul Foley, in Greystones County Wicklow. I was absolutely delighted to be asked to name, create branding, signage, print and website design, and to direct the photography for the project.

In the naming process I was struck by Brian’s story, that of years of training, honing of skills, building connections and friendships - he had been bringing this dream into a reality for a long time. The other strand of the story was the restaurants location in Greystones, and the desire for it to honour that location. The word Caladh (cah-lah) is from the Irish Language - meaning ‘landing place’ or ‘harbour’ and seemed to suit the vision perfectly - a landing place both figuratively for Brian and literally in Greystones.

We wanted the branding to feel considered, calm, spacious and deeply rooted in the land. The addition of a rectangle motif signifies our landing place, and adds depth and grounding to the lighter brand marks.

Printed materials were hugely important to the project in the form of menus, business and gift cards, beautifully printed by Print Plus. Whilst Revert brought the signage design to life.

Finally I collaborated with Tetyana Maryshko, who brought the visual language together with the most beautiful photography, showcasing the craft of the chefs and their home in Greystones for their online promotion and website.
