Boann Distillery has quickly become a powerhouse brand in the Irish Whiskey community creating a unique style of whiskey only associated with Ireland, Single Pot Still. Situated in the heart of the Boyne valley, just minutes away from the historical site of Newgrange, they distil their unique approach to this whiskey style using locally sourced ingredients, traditional approaches and cutting edge techniques.
With various and well received exploration into this specific style of whiskey, it was time for Boann Distillery to launch their core offering.
Rising from the essence of the Boyne Valley, we were influenced by how Newgrange harnesses light, how making a whiskey is the transformation of something natural to something refined and how there is poetry and method to the making of a fine whiskey that it’s bottle should serve to capture. We wanted every touchpoint to bring people deeper into this experience.
At the centre of this is the bottle which we designed as a tactile interaction for the consumer. At the base of the bottle we have ‘Boyne Valley Distilled’ in ogham rooting the bottle in its historical location. Emanating from this is a natural styled texture that playfully interacts with light and the whiskey in the bottle. This texture is a thought provoking piece allowing people to generate their own connection with the bottle and the whiskey; it can be barley blowing in the Boyne Valley wind, water for the River Boyne, fire for charring the barrels, woodgrain from the staves, all things associated with the making of whiskey. This then transitions to a more structured form at the shoulders and the neck that mirror the profile of their own spirit pot still. Capturing the very direct connection Boann Distillery has with their location and their techniques.
The labels serve to compliment and not overpower the bottle. At the core is a white label that is foiled and embossed with a custom texture continuing the flowing feature of the bottle. Three expressions were released and with these we rooted the colours and textured patterns to the three core ingredients of whiskey creation; grain, water and wood.
The complete package is then crowned with a tapered cork which is inlaid with a metal seal outlining the respect and acknowledgment they have for nature and their place in it.
All secondary assets and icons have the same sense of flow and serve to depict the unique aspects of Boann Distillery.
