Becoming Christine

This book titled ‘Becoming Christine’ was published by the Outside Press to accompany an exhibition of artworks made by the artist Amanda Dunsmore in collaboration with Christine Beynon. The photographs in the book are part of a ‘Selfie Series’, posted online by Christine documenting her transition over the last 10 years. The aim of this publication (and exhibition) is to promote discussion and a greater understanding around trans gender issues by seeking to improve conditions and advance the rights and equality of trans people and their families.

The book includes four essays which critically analyse the artistic conversations surrounding the exhibition, concentrating on Christine’s ‘Selfie Series’ of photographs and offering different perspectives on gender, equality and diversity today. The book was disseminated through the Galway Arts Centre which hosted the book launch, exhibition and associated talks in their new resource centre. The book was also distributed through TENI in Dublin.
