Balsa

Balsa is an Irish startup that provides custom software to simplify complex business problems—accelerating revenue growth, creating cost efficiencies, optimising processes and improving decision-making for clients across all sectors.

Balsa is a type of softwood used in model-making by designers and architects—it’s strong, lightweight, and pliable and is associated with precision and craftsmanship. The name reflects the company’s commitment to creating flexible, high-quality software that can adapt to multiple industries, functions and user needs. 

The visual identity is built around a high contrast yellow and black palette and the Balsa flexiframe—a notional wireframe of eight elastic vertices that twist, stretch and overlap its edges to create innumerable configurations and shapes. This treatment continues when the frame is combined with photography—the frame is masked to mimic its flexibility as the path winds its way around the subject. The Balsa wordmark is set in the geometric typeface Tenon—this anchors the identity and provides a visual counterpoint to the flexiframe.
