Centenary was published by the Government of Ireland to document the state and grassroots activity that took place over the course of 2016 and the 1916 centenary. The brief was to create a book that felt iconic and appropriately communicated the character of the year in all its diversity.
The cover design used Centenary as a typographic icon on green linen. Treating the word as an image in this way let us achieve a simple elegant solution. Page marker ribbons were used in green, white, and orange in reference to the state flag, a motif that was central to many of the year's ceremonies. The inside of the book was designed in dual-language, with Irish and English being used within the same layout and with equal prominence. As you move through the book the colour palette moves to incorporate the full spectrum of colour across 388 pages echoing the diversity of involvement in the year's activities.
